John Buckwalter currently serves as the Dean of the College of Human Ecology at Kansas State University. Prior to joining KSU in 2013, he spent 6 years at the University of Texas at Arlington. During that time he served as Chair of the department of Kinesiology and then moved into the position of Associate Dean for Research and Graduate studies in the College of Education and Health Professions. Prior to moving to Texas he spent 12 years at the Medical College of Wisconsin where he was a faculty member in the Department of Anesthesiology where his research was supported by a number of sources including grants from both the National Institutes of Health and the American Heart Association.
Dr. Buckwalter earned two bachelors degrees from Centenary College in Shreveport LA. He was awarded a BA in Spanish and a BS in Physical Education and Health. Dr. Buckwalter earned a MS and a PhD in Kinesiology with an emphasis on Exercise Physiology from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.
For the 2011-2012 academic year, Dr. Buckwalter was selected for the American Council on Education’s Fellowship program, one of the nation’s oldest designed to train senior academic leaders.
He is a member of the American Physiological Society, Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine, and on the Board of Directors for the Board on Human Sciences.
